Survey Says Gainesville Is Tops in Virginia for Families

Website ranks 56 communities across state: media report.

A financial planning website has rated Gainesville as the best city in Virginia for young families.

In rankings released Monday, NerdWallet praises the Prince William County community for its excellent schools and family-oriented quality, according to radio station WTOP. In Gainesville, 40 percent of households are families with children, the highest percentage in the state.

The list compiled by NerdWallet ranks 56 localities across Virginia with populations of 10,000 or more. The rankings are based on home affordability, prosperity and growth, quality of education, and family friendliness.

Seven of the top 10 cities are in Northern Virginia, and five are in Fairfax County. Manassas ranks 21st on the list while Manassas Park comes in at 25th. To see NerdWallet’s methodology and full list, please click here.
