Labor Day: State Police Increasing Enforcement This Weekend
Effort will target drunk drivers — 120 arrests during 2013 Labor Day weekend.

Warning to drivers celebrating Labor Day weekend buzzed: the Virginia State Police is increasing enforcement over the four-day weekend and they’re targeting drunk drivers.
There were nine traffic deaths during the Labor Day weekend last year and six during the same period in 2012.
The increased traffic enforcement begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and continues through midnight Monday night.

There were 120 drunk-driving arrests during the weekend in 2013. But they’re not the only ones on the radar: there were also 11,834 speeding citations and 2,552 reckless driving citations.
The state police and other law enforcement also need the help of passing motorists during traffic stops. State law requires drivers to move to a far lane away from traffic stops, if possible. If not, the driver needs to proceed cautiously.
