Main Street Manassas Reveals Million-Dollar Makeover this Week
Main Street in Manassas gets a whole new look.

Main Street Manassas will officially reveal the results of its makeover Tuesday, Nov. 19 during a 10 a.m.  ribbon-cutting ceremony.Â
Months of pounding, digging and grinding have produced a million dollar new look for the main thoroughfare of Old Town Manassas, which has been closed periodically to thru traffic since late July.Â

The project, known as Main Street Streetscapes, widened narrow sidewalks from 4 feet, to up to 16 feet to allow small businesses to offer outside dining and walkers more space to stroll the streets.  Â
The project also added 19 Allee Lacebark Elm and Green Vase Japanese Zelkova trees along with brick crosswalks at the cross streets, much like those found at the intersection of Battle and Center Streets.  About $125,000 of the total project budget went toward street design. Another $950,000 was spent on construction, officials said.Â
Local government staff said the Main Street Streetscapes project is a part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and an continuing investment in the Old Town area in an effort to attract visitors and enhance their experience in the City of Manassas.
