SERVE's Empty Bowls Event is Thursday, October 15
Fundraiser for SERVE's Hunger Resource Center directs all proceeds to anti-hunger programs in Manassas
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) will be fundraising for the Hunger Resource Center (HRC) at SERVE Family Shelter by hosting its 16th annual Empty Bowls dinner. The charity event will be held on Thursday, October 15 from 5 - 8 p.m., at the Manassas Church of the Brethren (10047 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, Virginia 20110).
The Hunger Resource Center works to assist the nearly 32,500 people in Prince William County, Manassas City and Manassas Park City who are food insecure (source). The United States Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as having a reduced quality and variety of diet as well as having multiple indications of disrupted eating patterns and reduced food intake (source). The HRC serves nearly 900 families per month, and more than 10,000 individuals each year.
Empty Bowls is a community event designed to give guests the experience of a soup kitchen, and features soup, bread and dessert donated from local restaurants. This year, guests will also enjoy performances by the Greater Manassas Children’s Choir and a silent auction with items donated by local businesses. The event’s traditional handmade, ceramic bowls for guests to choose and take home are included as part of admission. All proceeds benefit the Hunger Resource Center.
Advance tickets at a discount will be sold until October 14. To buy tickets online, or for other payment options, visit www.nvfs.org/emptybowls-tickets.
