Bus Accident Delayed Traffic on Old Dominion Drive Thursday

Accident between McLean and Chesterbrook

If you were held up Thursday on Old Dominion Drive near Birch Road around lunchtime, McLean neighbor Laura Sheridan sent along the note below to explain why.

A bus drove into a ditch presumably a little before 9:20am. Fairfax County police closed Old Dominion with a police car a few blocks to the west (toward McLean).

When I saw the scene, three or four policemen were at the intersection and a crane was about to extricate the bus. The accident occurred near St. John the Beloved Catholic Church.

Another neighbor Ted Lopatkiewicz reported:  My wife and I came upon the scene shortly after it happened, but we were there just a few minutes after 8 in the morning.  There was no police presence yet at that time, and traffic hadn't been terribly affected yet.
