Christmas 2019: What's Open, Closed In McLean

There will be various closings on Christmas Day and surrounding days in McLean.

Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday, meaning local government and other services will take a break mid week. It's a given that many services are closed on Christmas Day, but others will be closed Christmas Eve and surrounding days as well.

We've rounded up the closings and schedule changes to know around McLean. Schools are closed for an extended winter break, while other services will run on half-day schedules on Christmas Eve.

Fairfax County Government offices: Closing at noon on Dec. 24 and closed Dec. 25.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Dec. 24-26.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Dec. 23-Jan. 3.

Animal shelter: Open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.

Community centers: McLean Community Center is open for a half-day on Dec. 24 and closed Dec. 25. On Dec. 26, the center will close at 8 p.m. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed from noon on Dec. 24 through Dec. 25.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate regular weekday service on Dec. 24 and Sunday service on Dec. 25. Fastran will not operate from noon on Dec. 24 to Dec. 25. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.

Libraries: Fairfax County libraries are open for a half-day on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.

Metrorail: On Dec. 25, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day. There are no scheduled changes for Dec. 24.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25. See bus timetables.

Parks: Fairfax County Park Authority operated parks are closed on Dec. 24 and 25. Visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours for more information.

Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.

Recreation centers: Rec centers are open until noon on Dec. 24, except George Washington RECenter, which is closed. Rec centers are closed on Dec. 25.

Trash and recycling: County trash and recycling collections will not happen on Dec. 25, and service for the rest of the week will be collected one day later. Contact private providers for any schedule changes. The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and are closed on Dec. 25.
