CVS Expands Vaccine Appointments To More Virginia Communities
COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available in more communities in Virginia and other states.

VIRGINIA — CVS has significantly increased the number of locations that are administering COVID-19 vaccinations in Virginia and other states.
CVS locations in 64 Virginia communities are offering vaccine scheduling, up from 33 communities when the company began offering vaccine appointments on Feb. 12. Vaccine appointments are available to people 65 and older, as well as K-12 teachers, daycare and preschool workers, and staff.
CVS is part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Partnership Program for COVID-19 vaccines, collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, and 21 national pharmacy partners. In Virginia, CVS and Safeway have their own appointment scheduling systems, while other pharmacies are helping health departments work on their own vaccine wait lists.

School staff and child care workers are some of the essential workers eligible in Virginia's phase 1b. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a March 2 directive from President Joe Biden called for states to prioritize school staff and childcare workers for vaccinations, leading federal pharmacy program to prioritize vaccinations of school staff and child care workers during the month of March.
According to the CDC, the federal pharmacy program is being implemented incrementally based on the available vaccine supply, with select retail pharmacy locations providing COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals. As vaccine availability increases over time, the program will expand to ultimately include all 40,000 pharmacies in the United States, the CDC said.
