CVS Plans To Offer Vaccine Appointments At Select Virginia Stores
CVS will offer the COVID-19 vaccine starting on Feb. 12 for people 65 and up and preregistered with their local health department.

VIRGINIA — CVS plans to offer COVID-19 vaccine appointments starting Feb. 12 at select locations in Virginia. Only individuals 65 and older who have preregistered for the vaccine with their local health department can schedule appointments, per Virginia Department of Health guidance.
The 36 initial CVS locations for the vaccine will be located throughout Virginia, including in Bedford, Blacksburg, Chesapeake, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, Stafford, and Virginia Beach. According to a CVS spokesperson, the list of specific stores for vaccines will be provided on the CVS website as stores receive shipments and appointments become available.

Scheduling of appointments starts on Feb. 11. Once appointment booking opens, individuals must register in advance for an appointment on the CVS website or CVS app. Those without internet access can call the CVS customer service at 800-746-7287. Walk-in vaccinations without an appointment will not be provided.
The launch of vaccine appointments at CVS in Virginia is part of an initial state rollout. This rollout will also include 335 CVS Pharmacy locations across California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Texas. The initial rollout in Virginia will have approximately 26,000 doses, with supply coming from the federal pharmacy partnership program.

CVS will expand to more locations and offer additional appointments as more supply becomes available. Eventually vaccines will be available at all CVS Pharmacy locations in the U.S. subject to product availability. CVS will have the capacity to administer 20 million to 25 million shots per month in the U.S.
CVS has also been conducting vaccinations at participating Virginia long-term care facilities as part of a federal vaccination program along with Walgreens. First doses are complete at all 195 participating skilled nursing facilities in Virginia, and 69 percent of second doses are done. At 679 assisted living facilities where vaccinations began on Jan. 11, 84 percent of first doses are done. CVS expects to complete first doses by mid-February.
Coronavirus Numbers in Virginia
As of Tuesday, 873,468 doses have been administered of 1,370,600 doses distributed, or about 63.7 percent. There are 742,733 people with at least one dose, or 8.7 percent of the population. A total of 130,735 are fully vaccinated.
As for cases, an additional 2,740 were reported on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative total to 510,380 cases. The seven-day average of daily cases is 3,865, down from a peak of 6,166 on Jan. 18. Northern Virginia had 647 new cases on Tuesday and a seven-day average of 916.
The positive average of PCR tests has been on the decline for most of January. The latest statewide average is 11.5 percent as of Jan. 29. Northern Virginia's average is 10.1 percent. The state's seven-day average of total testing encounters is 28,484, down from a peak of 34,695 on Jan. 14.
The average of current hospitalizations started to decline in mid-January, and cumulative hospitalizations stand at 21,516. As of Tuesday, there are 2,468 current COVID-19 patients, including 493 in the intensive care units and 304 on ventilators. Northern Virginia has 434 current COVID-19 patients.
The 2,468 current COVID-19 patients represent approximately 18 percent of the 13,346 occupied hospital beds in Virginia. There are 16,476 staffed hospital beds in the state. ICU occupancy among all hospital patients is at 80 percent, and ventilator use is at 35 percent, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
There were 43 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide Tuesday. Since the start of the pandemic, 6,517 people in Virginia have died from COVID-19.

- Alexandria: 9,528 cases, 489 hospitalizations, 104 deaths; increase of 46 cases
- Arlington County: 11,806 cases, 732 hospitalizations, 203 deaths; increase of 37 cases, three hospitalizations and two deaths
- Fairfax County: 59,960 cases, 3,276 hospitalizations, 788 deaths; increase of 243 cases, eight hospitalizations and four deaths
- Fairfax City: 434 cases, 30 hospitalizations and 12 deaths; increase of five cases
- Falls Church: 296 cases, 19 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of six cases and one death
- Loudoun County: 20,618 cases, 769 hospitalizations, 183 deaths; increase of 134 cases, four hospitalizations and two deaths
- Manassas: 3,737 cases, 155 hospitalizations, 33 deaths; increase of 12 cases
- Manassas Park: 1,073 cases, 66 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of three cases
