Power Substation Construction Begins Near Trap Road This Week

Beginning on or about Monday, April 23, and continuing through April 26, the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project will deliver and assemble a Traction Power Substation (TPSS) to a site on Trap Road, just south of the Dulles Toll Road, near the Barns of Wolf Trap.
 
The logistics for the deliveries are planned as follows (weather pending):
 
Monday, April 23, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a large crane will be delivered and set up on the site.
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 24 and 25, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., large trucks carrying the modular elements of the TPSS will be delivered to the site and lifted into place by the crane.
Thursday, April 26, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., the crane will be disassembled and removed from the site.
 
The trucks carrying the modular elements of the TPSS will be staged at Dulles Airport and the deliveries will be staggered to ensure that no trucks are parked on ramps or roadways at or near the site. The approved route from Dulles is as follows:  
North on Pacific Boulevard to Route 606
Route 28 to Sterling Boulevard
Route 7 to Trap Road 
The transporters over the next two to three days will enter Virginia via I-81 south, and then will take Route 7 east, Route 28 south, and Route 606 west to get to the staging area at Dulles Airport.
 
Supervisory personnel will be on site during this work to ensure the operation runs smoothly, and police will be on hand to ensure motorist safety as the trucks enter and leave the site. All work must comply with Fairfax County noise regulations between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
 
Access to all residences in the area will be maintained throughout the work. Motorists should stay alert, and use caution when traveling in this area.
