UPDATE: Lone Gunman Robs Downtown McLean Bank Monday

Capital One Bank held up.

UPDATE 2:53pm.  Fairfax police this afternoon released this information about the robbery of the Capital One Bank at 6890 Elm Street in McLean. The robbery took place around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9.

This was McLean's first bank robbery of 2012.

An armed man entered the bank and demanded money from a bank employee. The clerk complied and the man fled, police said.

The suspect was last seen heading toward an office building across the street from the bank near Dolly Madison Boulevard, police said.

The suspect  wore a ski mask and gloves, a fisherman’s hat, a three-quarter length khaki-colored trench coat, and dress pants, police said.

McLean's last bank holdup was an attempted holdup of the BB&T Bank in the Chesterbrook Shopping Center in November 2011. The alleged suspect in that case was captured in December.

ORIGINAL STORY 12:30 pm: A downtown McLean Bank on Dolley Madison Boulevard was robbed Monday morning.

The Capital One Bank at Dolley Madison Boulevard and Elm Street down the street from the U.S. Post Office was closed after the robbery.

Fairfax County Police and bank officials confirmed the robbery but have not yet made details available.
