Driver Dies In Beltway Crash South Of American Legion Bridge

State police say the vehicle hit a tractor-trailer before leaving the road, striking trees and overturning.

MCLEAN, VA — A driver died in a crash Friday, June 4 on the Capital Beltway south of the American Legion Bridge, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred around 11:56 p.m. Friday on northbound I-495 south of the bridge separating Virginia and Maryland. Police say a 2019 Hyundai Kona was driving at a high speed in the far-left lane when it crossed two lanes and struck a Freightliner tractor-trailer in the center lane. The vehicle continued off the right side of the road into a ditch, striking two threes and overturning.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Daniel E. Gluckman, 36, of Rockville, Maryland, died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.
