FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County residents can get involved with the budget process as the Board of Supervisors are set to hold public hearings from April 13 to 15.

The public hearings on the proposed fiscal year 2022 budget, 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Program, and fiscal year 2021 third quarter review will be held virtually at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14 and Thursday, April 15. Residents can view the hearings on Channel 16, livestreaming online, and on demand after the meetings.

The $4.49 billion general fund budget proposal from County Executive Bryan Hill calls for a $16.51 million increase over the current fiscal year 2021 budget. Hill proposed a one-cent tax reduction, or a rate of $1.14 per $100 of assessed value. But due to increases in the average residential property values, the average residential annual tax bill would increase by $224.15 with the one-cent tax cut. The Board of Supervisors set a tax ceiling of $1.15 per $100 of assessed value, which means they cannot adopt a rate higher than that.
