Fairfax County School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Fairfax County is August 28. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Fairfax County Public School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 8/21 - 8/22: Teacher Workdays
• 8/23: In-service Day
• 8/24 - 8/25: Teacher Workdays
• 8/28: First Day of School

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)
• 9/22: No School for Students (School Planning)

October

• 10/9: No School (Columbus Day)

November

• 11/3: Early Release, Quarter Ends
• 11/6: No School for Students (School Planning)
• 11/7: No School for Students (Teacher Workday)
• 11/22: Early Release
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Break)

December

• 12/18 - 1/1: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1: No School (Winter Break)
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday)
• 1/25: Early Release, Quarter Ends
• 1/26: No School for Students (Teacher Workday)
• 1/27: No School for Students (Staff Development)

February

• 2/19: No School (Presidents’ Day)

March

• 3/26 - 3/30: No School (Spring Break)

April

• 4/2: No School for Students (School Planning)
• 4/13: Early Release, Quarter Ends
