Georgetown Pike Closure Coming Up In Great Falls Area

The closure will impact Georgetown Pike in the area near Great Falls Park and Difficult Run Stream Valley parking lot.

GREAT FALLS, VA — A portion of Georgetown Pike will be closed for several days in the Great Falls area, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

VDOT will close Georgetown Pike over Difficult Run between Old Dominion Drive and Towlston Road to through traffic from 8 p.m. Friday, June 18 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 21. VDOT will be conducting bridge work, weather permitting.

The closure is in the area of Georgetown Pike just east of Great Falls Park. Residents will be able to access their properties along Georgetown Pike, but traffic will not be able to cross the bridge in both directions. Through traffic will be detoured via Old Dominion Drive and Towlston Road. Access to the Difficult Run Stream Valley parking lot will be available via eastbound Georgetown Pike at Old Dominion Drive.

VDOT crews will be replacing concrete approach slabs, patching the concrete deck and repairing bridge joints at the bridge over Difficult Run. The bridge will reopen with temporary steel plates, but new asphalt and lane striping will occur about two weeks later.

VDOT acknowledged that the bridge work will require overnight noise on two nights.

Please note that this work will include overnight noise. From 9 p.m. on Friday, June 18 to 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, crews will be performing concrete demolition with concrete hammers and hoe rams. From 4 a.m., Saturday, June 19 until 2 a.m., Sunday, June 20, there will be construction activities with heavy equipment such as vehicle back up alarms and engine sounds.
