Headliners Set for 2019-2020 Concerts in the Community Series

at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church

Harried commuters are invited to enjoy a “hump day” 30-minute respite from the demands of their day jobs at Holy Happy Hour mini-concerts set for Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, McLean, on selected fourth Wednesdays.

Each concert begins at 6:15 pm and concludes half an hour later with a brief period to enjoy wine and cheese and meet the artists. There is no charge for the musical program or the refreshments.

Something for every musical taste will be featured in this concert series. The first concert, held September 25, featured Lena Seikaly and Christopher Ziemba in a jazz duet for voice and piano.

Rock music from the 1969 Woodstock event featuring Lewinsville’s pipe organ with guitars, bass, drums, and vocals

Artists: Bruce Deatley, drums; Joe Koenig, guitar; Clay McConnell, bass & vocals; John Nothaft, organ

Wednesday, January 22 – HOLY HAPPY HOUR @6:15 pm

Music featuring flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon. Note that this concert will run one hour, followed by fellowship.

Music of African American composers

Artist: Amy Yurkewitch, clarinet, accompanied by John Nothaft, organ/piano

Artist: Seán Heely, US National Scottish Fiddler Champion, with Lisa Greenfield (vocals) and Hector Munk (flute)

The Holy Happy Hour concerts will be interrupted in October and December with the following full length concerts:

Sunday, October 27 – BACHTOBERFEST @7:00 pm

Organ works of J.S. Bach, Cello Suite No. 3 BWV 1009, and Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott Cantata BWV 80, followed by German desserts

Artists: John Nothaft, organist, Katie McCarthy, cellist, The Lewinsville Chancel Choir with orchestra

Sunday, December 8 – CHRISTMAS CONCERT @6:00 pm

“Waiting for the Messiah” – a blend of the Christmas Section of Handel’s Messiah with Advent and Christmastime favorites

Artists: Lewinsville’s vocal and bell choirs, featuring orchestra

Note special performance times for the October and December events. All concerts will be held in the sanctuary and are open to the public.
