FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — As we move away from the Christmas holiday, some residents may be looking to remove their Christmas trees. There are several ways to remove your trees in Fairfax County.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue recommends removing your tree after Christmas or when it is dry. The National Fire Protection Association says dried-out trees present a fire hazard and should not be left in homes or garages or placed against a home.

When you should remove the tree depends on when you got it, what condition it was in, and whether it was properly watered, according to the fire department.

Residents can also recycle trees at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) or I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) for a $7 fee.
