Local Hero: Inova Fairfax Nurse Cares For Coronavirus Patients

MCLEAN, VA — With its Local Heroes initiative, Patch hopes to recognize those making a difference in the community, especially during these difficult times. Some of these heroes are workers on the front lines of the new coronavirus crisis.

One of these workers is Artemis Jannesari, an ICU Nurse at Inova Fairfax Hospital who has been caring for some of the sickest COVID-19 patients. The McLean resident was nominated by her friend Ashley Tseng.

In an emailed statement to Patch, Jannesari shared how her team has given her strength during her shifts.

"I work at Inova Fairfax and it’s been pretty hectic since everything has started," she wrote. "My colleagues on my direct unit and all the COVID designated units have been absolutely amazing and have embraced how resilient we can be. It can really feel like you are fighting fire with fire when caring for patients with this virus. Even through the worst shift, there’s comfort in knowing you have a whole team who are more than willing to jump in and support you through anything that happens."

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?

As an ICU nurse in a COVID-19 ICU, Artemis has provided direct care for the sickest coronavirus patients by monitoring the patients to make sure they do not deteriorate. When a coronavirus patient is very sick, it is crucial that nurses like Artemis are there to identify their deterioration early and fast as the disease progression of coronavirus happens over minutes to hours.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:

Artemis is an alumni of George Mason University's Nursing program and is a long-time member of the local McLean community. She is extremely compassionate and hard-working, and deserves to be recognized for her work in during the COVID-19 pandemic.
