McLean Community Center Presents 2021 Board Election Results

Three adults and two teens have been elected to the McLean Community Center governing board, according to preliminary results.

MCLEAN, VA — The McLean Community Center has announced preliminary results of the 2021 governing board election.

Five adults and eight teens ran for the three adult seats and two teen seats (one for Langley High School boundary and one for McLean High School boundary) on the board. Adults serve three-year terms, while teens serve one-year terms.

According to preliminary results, these are the newly-elected members:

Adults

  • Shivani Saboo, 329 votes
  • Lisa Mariam, 302 votes
  • Rasheq Rahman, 288 votes
Teens
  • Ivy Chen, 45 votes (Langley High School boundary)
  • Max Blacksten, 48 votes (McLean High School boundary)

Voting was open from March 17 through McLean Day on Saturday, May 15. McLean Day was held in a drive-thru format with MCC governing board voting. Dranesville Small District 1A residents could vote in the MCC election, with adults voting for adult candidates and teens voting for teen candidates.

The MCC Governing Board sets policy and oversees facilities and programs of the center, including the Robert Ames Alden Theatre and the Old Firehouse Teen Center. Residents in the Dranesville Small District 1A pay a special district tax of $0.023 per $100 of assessed value on top of the Fairfax County property tax. The 11-member board meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the McLean Community Center.

Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust will bring the MCC board election results to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The county board will verify the election and appoint the new MCC board members.
