McLean High School Boundary Adjustment Proposed
A proposed boundary adjustment would move some McLean High School students to Langley High School.

MCLEAN, VA — A boundary adjustment is proposed at McLean High School to provide enrollment relief and use available space at Langley High School.
Fairfax County Public Schools is proposing a boundary adjustment of a portion of the Spring Hill Elementary split feeder area to feed from Longfellow Middle School and McLean High School to Cooper Middle School and Langley High School. This boundary adjustment would not change the elementary school boundary and would not move students out of Langley High School.
In December 2020, four options were presented at a community meeting, which led to a final recommendation for the school board. The school board is scheduled to vote on the boundary adjustment on Feb. 4. A public hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28.

McLean High School is projected to have an enrollment increase in the next five years while Langley High School is expected to see similar or decreasing enrollment, according to FCPS. Langley High School's recent renovation increased its design capacity to 2,370 students. In the 2019-20 school year, McLean High School had 2,350 students with a capacity of 1,993 students, and Langley High School had 1,972 students with a capacity of 2,370 students. Longfellow Middle School had 1,334 students with a capacity of 1,374 students, and Cooper Middle School had 992 students. Cooper Middle School will have a capacity of 1,120 students once its renovation is complete.
The boundary adjustment process began in December 2019 with meetings at Langley High School and McLean High School. Attendees were asked to provide feedback on areas to be considered in the boundary study. As a result of feedback during boundary scope meetings, the school board voted in 2020 to amend the scope to include middle schools.

In 2020, the school board also voted to install a 12-classroom modular at McLean High School for capacity relief. The modular was scheduled to be installed in December 2020.
