McLean High School Theatre Company to Present “Our Town”

Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning show will be April 25 through 27.

The McLean High School Theatre Company will present Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” April 25-27.

The play won a Pulitzer in 1938, continues to be relevant in today's world and has been described as "the greatest American play ever written." Director Amy Poe leads the award-winning company presenting this classic.

Wilder wished it to be performed, retaining his sharp observations on human foibles, as well as his powerful insights into the human condition, juxtaposed with his great compassion and gentle humor.

Poe brings her unique vision to this story that follows the story of the small town of Grover's Corners through three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage" and "Death and Eternity." Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry and, eventually, in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre, die.

Poe said in a statement, “Our production of ‘Our Town’ will focus upon the play within a play aspect and the stage manager’s role. We want to make the audience feel the value of art and character struggles as they relate to the human condition.”

“Our Town” runs at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 25-27. Performances will be held at McLean High School Theatre, 1633 Davidson Road, McLean. Reserved tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and can be purchased at www.mcleandrama.com or at the door beginning one hour before the show. Doors open 20 minutes before curtain.
