McLean Resident Named Circuit Court Judge

John Tran is the first Asian-American ever to serve as a judge in Virginia.

McLean resident John Tran has been elected to the Fairfax County Circuit Court by the Virginia General Assembly.

Tran is a former federal and Alexandria city prosecutor and the first Asian-American to serve as a judge in Virginia, according to The Washington Post.

Tran, 53, was born in Vietnam. He immigrated to the Washington area in 1970. He is the son of a South Vietnamese diplomat who lived in Arlington and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1977.

He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from George Washington University.
