Former MHS Administrator Named Acting Principal

Community meeting Thursday night will give more information about search process for permanent McLean High leader

Paul Jones, a retired assistant principal from McLean High School, will serve as acting principal when the high school reopens in September.

Earlier this month, popular McLean High School Principal Deborah Jackson was promoted within Fairfax County Public Schools, accepting a as a special project administrator and leaving a vacancy at the top of one of the most sought-after schools in the county.

Tonight, school officials are hosting a community meeting to explain to parents and citizens how a new principal will be selected.

Cluster I Superintendent Marty Smith will explain the process for selecting Jackson's replacement. This is an opportunity for the community members to make known the qualifications important to them.

The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school's lecture hall.

Only about a third of McLean households have a child attending school, but all Fairfax taxpayers pay for the schools.

This is the second principal search in McLean in the past two years; a new principal was named at Franklin Sherman Elementary School in November 2010.
