More Severe Storms Possible As Watch Issued For NoVA, DC
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch, as well as a flash flood watch in select areas.
VIRGINIA — As inclement weather threatens the region for a second day, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued Monday.
The National Weather Service tweeted that "another, possibly stronger and more widespread round of thunderstorms" could happen Monday afternoon and evening. In addition, DC, Arlington County, Falls Church and Alexandria appear to be under a flash flood watch.
The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 p.m. in Northern Virginia and DC. A watch means severe storms are possible and that residents should monitor the forecast. If a warning is issued, severe storms are expected, and residents should seek shelter.

Forecasters expect thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon and evening along the Interstate 95 corridor. Some areas may experience multiple thunderstorms through this evening, with possible rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible and over 3 inches in isolated areas. If the higher amounts occur, urban areas could see flash flooding, and streams could rise quickly.
Flash flooding is a rapid rise in water level that can be life-threatening. People who come across flooded roads should turn around; don't drown.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang says a "hot, unstable air mass" creates a chance for "hit or miss" storms. These storms could come about with little warning and have the possibility of strong winds and hail, forecasters say.
The severe thunderstorm watch applies to 24 Virginia counties, including Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, King George, Loudoun, Prince William, Spotsylvania and Stafford. Independent cities included in the watch are Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fredericksburg, Manassas, Manassas Park and Charlottesville.
