PE Teacher for BASIS Ind McLean Competes in Team USA in Denmark
Tyler Coquelin of Tysons Corner School Ranks in Top 50 in Int'l Triathlon Union's Multisport World Championship

Tyler Coquelin, physical education instructor for BASIS Independent McLean (BIM) in McLean, Va. ranked in the top 50 as part of Team USA for the Triathlon-Aquabike race in the International Triathlon Union’s Multisport World Championship in Denmark this summer. Coquelin competed with more than 200 participants in the 75-mile bike race and 3 kilometer swim. Coquelin teaches physical education to pre-kindergarteners through fourth graders at BASIS Independent McLean and trains for athletic competitions regularly.
Team USA was created by USA Triathlon to be a team of age group/amateurs who will best represent the United States and compete in the International Triathlon Union's (ITU) World Championships, which attracts the best athletes representing more than 50 countries each year.

Hosted by Denmark, the Fynske Bank Multisport World Championships Festival attracts the world’s best athletes in the duathlon, cross triathlon, aquathlon, aquabike and triathlon. The festival is not exclusively for the elite but for everyone—ranging from age-group athletes and seasoned veterans to beginners doing their first multisport event.
“Tyler is a great example of our passionate teachers, and we are so proud of his accomplishment,” said Tiffany Conroy, BASIS Independent McLean interim head of school. “He strives for his best during competition and in his classroom, and he models this behavior for his students,” said Conroy.
