Potomac School Student to Play Soccer for Cornell University

Tommy Hansan, a senior at The Potomac School, has committed to play Division I soccer for Cornell University.

McLean, VA – Tommy Hansan, a senior at The Potomac School, has committed to play Division I soccer for Cornell University, The Potomac School announced Tuesday.

Hansan played for Potomac’s varsity team during his freshman and sophomore seasons before deciding to focus his efforts on playing for Bethesda Academy, a local club team. As a freshman and sophomore, Hansan received All-MAC honors; as a sophomore, he was also named to the All-State Second Team and received a Washington Post All-Met honorable mention.

Cornell Head Coach John Smith and his coaching staff played a significant role in Hansan’s decision to attend the university. Smith was new to Cornell last season and “is one of the most respected coaches in Division I,” Hansan says. He adds, “Coach Smith has a great vision for the team – he doesn’t just want to win the Ivy Championship, he wants to win the National Championship. It’s an ambitious and exciting goal.”
