Snow Likely In McLean Over The Weekend

MCLEAN, VA—Get out your shovels and snow boots, because it looks like snow is on the way. According to the National Weather Service there's a strong likelihood of snow on both Saturday, Jan. 12 and Sunday, Jan. 13 in McLean.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang predicts light snow will start Saturday afternoon, but moderate snow could happen into the evening or night. The snow could halt overnight and start up again Sunday morning. Any moderate snowfall would happen in the afternoon.

So how much snow exactly will we get?

NWS predicts 3 to 4 inches in the McLean area from Saturday to Sunday evening. At the very least, forecasters predict a 95 percent chance of 0.1 inches of snow or more. By comparison, there's a 91 percent chance of 1 inch or more, 70 percent chance of 2 inches or more and 32 percent chance of 4 inches or more.

Unsurprisingly, it will be quite cold. Temperatures will stay in the 20s and mid-30s through the weekend.

The chance of snow will decline as Sunday night goes on. By the time Monday comes around, it's unlikely that any more snow will fall.

• Friday: Sunny, with a high near 39. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. The night will turn cloudy, with a low around 24.
• Saturday: Snow likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
• Saturday Night: Snow. Low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
• Sunday: Snow likely, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
• Sunday Night: A slight chance of snow before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
• Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 36.
