Storm Causes Road Closures, Outages In Fairfax County

A storm with high winds resulted in downed trees and wires around the county, according to police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Outages and road closures around Fairfax County followed a thunderstorm with high winds Thursday into early Friday.

As of 9 a.m. Friday, Dominion Energy's outage map showed 4,846 outages in Fairfax County. If you have an outage, call Dominion Energy at 1-866-366-4357.

Fairfax County Police said there were various road closures around the county due to downed trees, flooding and downed wires. Here are the closures as of 5:20 p.m.:

  • Reopened: Candlewood Drive at Bayberry Drive, Hybla Valley, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • Kirkside Drive at Lida Court, Hybla Valley, blocked due to wires in the roadway
  • Vernon View Drive at Bushrod Road, Fort Hunt, blocked due to wires in the roadway
  • Reopened: Hutchinson Street at Great Falls Street, McLean, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • Reopened: Turner Avenue at Grayson Place, McLean, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • 3700 block of Prosperity Avenue, Fairfax, blocked due to a tree and wires in the roadway
  • Prosperity Avenue at Morningside Drive, Fairfax, blocked due to water in the roadway
  • Reopened: Ampthill Drive between Pima Street and Montrose Street, Lincolnia, blocked due to wires in the roadway
  • 3900 block of Wyndhill Drive, Annandale, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • Reopened: 6900 block of Lafayette Park Drive, Annandale, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • Reopened: 6200 block of Garden Road, West Springfield, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • Reopened: 11600 block of Foxclove Road, Reston, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
  • Woodrow Street at Stryker Avenue, Oakton, blocked due to wires in the roadway
  • Reopened: Lees Corner Road at Centreville Road, Sully, blocked due to a tree in the roadway
