UPDATE: McLean Neighbors Attend White House Ceremony Honoring George & Laura Bush

UPDATE: Several McLean neighbors joined 14 members of the George W. Bush family Thursday for the unveiling of the official White House portraits of George and Laura Bush.
Guess who wasn't at the White House ceremony: George W's former Vice President and McLean resident Dick Cheney.
The McLean neighbors, who are former members of the Bush administration included: Gens. Colin Powell and David H. Petraeus, and Albert Gonzales, former Attorney General. Gonzales left McLean and returned to Texas after the Bush administration. Their attendance was reported by The New York Times.

Company's Coming. Republican Florida senator and possible vice-president aspirant Sen. Marco Rubio, will embark on a book tour this summer that reportedly will bring him to downtown McLean.
Mark July 7 on the calendar. The book tour goes through three key battleground states – Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia – beginning June 30 and ending at the Books A Million in McLean, Va. on July 7, ABC News reported.

Rubio is promoting his autobiography, “An American Son,” which will be released June 19, with the book tour over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, according to ABCNews
Congratulations to Leading Defender of the Press. Lucy Dalglish, the Executive Director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and a McLean resident , has been dean of the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism. She will succeed Dean Kevin Klose on August 1.
The Reporters Committee is an outstanding defender of the rights of journalists. "The deanship offers me an opportunity to combine all of the skills I've developed over the years as a journalist, lawyer and administrator. The bonus is that I get to help talented and enthusiastic young people understand the crucial role journalism plays in a free society," Dalglish said of her new job.
Helping Gianna Hess. The Joe Cassella Foundation has reported that it raised more than $45,000 at its 5k Run/Walk for one year old Gianna Hess, who has been receiving chemotherapy since February for treatment of Hepatoblastoma.
Gianna's dad teaches at Langley High School.
McLean Woman’s Club’s New Officers. A ceremony was held May 30 to install the 2012-2013 officers. This will be the second consecutive year of service for each officer, which is a first for the club.
