Through Trucks Banned on Georgetown Pike

State action came after neighbors expressed concern.

Through trucks are now banned on all of Georgetown Pike and Balls Hill Road in the McLean area.

Dranesville Supervisor John Foust said the ban came after residents complained about noise, safety and vibration from trucks. Through trucks were already banned on the western portion of Georgetown Pike, he said.

The eastern section of the Pike runs from the Beltway to Route 123. Some truckers were exiting the Beltway at Georgetown Pike to avoid congestion.

Foust said the ban was first submitted to local residents, who approved it. The Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board gave its seal of approval in December.

Signs are already in place to alert truckers of the change, Foust said.
