MCLEAN, VA — If you’re among the millions of Americans traveling this 4th of July, you may be in for some sticker shock at the gas pump.
Gas prices are at a seven-year high heading into the holiday weekend, according to a recent AAA report. As of Thursday, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $3.12.
Last year, gas prices hovered around $2.18 per gallon just before the July 4 holiday.

How much can you expect to pay at the pump in McLean? AAA data shows the average price for a gallon of gas in Fairfax County was $3.12 for regular on Thursday. Average prices are updated daily.
According to Gas Buddy, multiple gas stations in McLean have prices below the Fairfax County average.

The BP gas station at 1423 Chain Bridge Road reported prices under the national average Thursday morning, at $2.96 per gallon for regular. A customer at the Liberty station at 1413 Chain Bridge Road reported prices at $2.97 per gallon for regular Wednesday night.
If you live in the western United States, you’re likely paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation. As of Thursday, gas prices were as much as $4.24 in California, $3.73 in Nevada and $3.76 in Washington state.
Meanwhile, Southern states including Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Missouri are enjoying the nation’s lowest gas prices, ranging from $2.72 to $2.87 per gallon.
Destinations vary this 4th of July, but AAA says the top five destinations this year are Orlando; Anaheim, California; Denver; Las Vegas and Seattle.
