Virginia Weather: Region Could See 60 MPH Wind Gusts Sunday Night, Monday

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for the DC metro region for Sunday night and Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning in effect late Sunday through Monday at 6 p.m. for the entire DC metro region. Northern Virginia is expected to see winds from the northwest gusting from 25 to 35 MPH, with possible gusts up to 60 MPH, according to the weather service.

The strongest winds are expected overnight through Monday morning, the weather service reported.

Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees and power lines, the weather service warned in its warning Sunday. Scattered power outages are expected, according to NWS. If you suffer a power outage, be sure to contact Dominion Energy at (866) 366-4357.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Wind gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

  • Monday: Sunny, with a high near 45. Windy, with a northwest wind 22 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.
  • Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. Northwest wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
