Person Escapes From Flooded Road, Fairfax County Roads Reopen
Some areas experienced flooding, but the tropical storm proved to have a more severe impact in other locations in Virginia and Maryland.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A significant amount of rain into Tuesday has led to instances of flooded roads, a water rescue and outages in Fairfax County. As Tropical Storm Isaias moved up the East Coast on Tuesday, Northern Virginia was spared the worst of it.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported one swift water rescue call at Woodburn Road and Spicewood Drive in Annandale. The fire department says a vehicle got stuck in the water, but the driver escaped before units arrived.
Roads have reopened after being closed for flooding or downed trees and power lines. Drivers ere urged to "turn around, don't drown" when encountering a flooded road.

Here are the road closures as of 3:20 p.m.:
- Belle View Boulevard, Belle Haven: High water (reopened)
- Paul Spring Parkway and Alexandria Avenue, Fort Hunt: Tree blocking the roadway (reopened)
- Old Courthouse Road and Besley Road, Tysons: High water (reopened)
- Old Dominion Drive and Swinks Mill Road, McLean: Tree blocking the roadway (reopened)
- Idylwood Court and Idylwood Road, Pimmit Hills: Tree on power line over the roadway (reopened)
- Friden Drive and Hillside Drive, Pimmit Hills: Tree blocking roadway (reopened)
- Villa Lane and Juniper Lane, Lake Barcroft: Tree on power lines (VDOT on site for fix)
- Woodburn Road and Spicewood Road, Annandale: High water (reopened)
- Browns Mill Road and Beulah Road, Wolf Trap: High water (reopened)
- Burke Road and Liberty Bell Court, Burke: High water (reopened)
- Burke Lake Road and Killkenny Lane, Fairfax Station: High water (reopened)
- Lawyers Road between Hunter Mill Road and Galloping Way, Wolf Trap/Oakton: High Water (reopened)
Scattered outages were reported in parts of the county Tuesday, according to Dominion Energy's outage map. The greatest impact was seen in Annandale along with parts of Lake Barcroft and Lincolnia, where over 6,200 lost power. As of 11 a.m., other outages included 250 in Hybla Valley, about 200 in Oakton north of Interstate 66, and about 100 each in Pimmit Hills and McLean.

A flood warning for eastern Fairfax County and flash flood watch for the whole county expired as the tropical storm threat passed. According to the National Weather Service, Fairfax County appeared on the lower end of rainfall totals. Higher totals were reported east of Interstate 95 toward the Chesapeake Bay.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue asks residents to treat all downed power lines as dangerous. Downed lines can energize other objects like fences, cars/trucks, buildings, bushes and trees, and telephone or cable TV cables.

At 8 a.m. Tuesday, the center of Isaias was located over southeast Virginia, according to the National Hurricane Center. The tropical storm is moving north-northeast at 33 mph with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. Gradual weakening was expected as Isaias continues up the mid-Atlantic coast Tuesday.
