What's Open, Closed For Fourth Of July 2021 Around McLean
Vienna's Fourth of July celebration is on Sunday, while some closures are planned for Monday.
MCLEAN, VA — With COVID-19 metrics improved from earlier in 2021, many Fourth of July celebrations will be returning. The McLean Community Center won't be hosting fireworks but rather a Drive-Thru Ice Cream Celebration for district residents. Nearby fireworks events include DC, Great Falls, Vienna and more.
The Independence Day holiday falls on Sunday, July 4, which also means Monday, July 5 will be the observed holiday for closures. Fairfax County government offices will be closed on July 5, and other services will have schedule changes.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on July 5.
Fairfax County courts: Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on July 5.

Fairfax County Public Schools: July 5 is a holiday for all employees.
Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment.
Community center: The McLean Community Center is closed on July 4 and 5.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will operate on a Sunday schedule on July 4 and offer Saturday service on July 5.
Libraries: Dolley Madison Library and other Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on July 4 and 5.
Metro: Metrorail will offer additional service on July 4 to accommodate riders attending fireworks displays. On July 5, trains will run on a Sunday schedule. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both days. Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule on July 4 and 5. See timetables for details. MetroAccess customers can make reservations during the holiday, but subscription trips will be canceled both days.
Park authority: Colvin Run Mill; Sully Historic Site; nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows; and Green Spring Gardens are closed on July 4. Riverbend Park visitor center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and indoor arena from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. but the visitor center is closed.
Post offices: Closed on July 5.
Recreation centers: RECenters are open regular hours to 4 p.m., except the George Washington RECenter, which is closed on July 4.
Trash and recycling pickup: For Fairfax County collection customers, regular trash, recycling, yard waste and special collection services happens on July 5. The customer service center will be closed on July 5. Private collection customers should check with their provider for changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex are closed on July 4.
