VIDEO: Apple Brandy at Mount Vernon

In a constant effort to revist the colonial period it commemorates, the  distilled apple brandy last week in front of a crowd of visitors.

Although George Washington primarily bottled and sold rye whiskey at his estate, he also made fruit brandies on some occasions. This season the estate distilled apple brandy, and last fall it chose peach brandy.

Rye whiskey, aged for two years at the estate, will go on sale Saturday, Oct. 22 during the Fall Harvest Family Days celebration. A pint of the spirit costs $185.
