Newport News School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Newport News is September 5. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Newport News Public School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

• 8/24: All Teachers and Teacher Assistants Report

September

• 9/5: First Day for Students

October

• 10/13: Half Day Dismissal (Family Conferences)

November

• 11/7: No School for Students (Teacher Work Day)
• 11/22 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/20: Half Day Dismissal
• 12/21 - 12/29: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1: No School (Winter Break)
• 1/2: Schools Reopen
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King Day)
• 1/23 - 1/25: Half Day for High Schools (Exams)
• 1/26: No School for Students (Teacher Work Day)
• 1/29: No School for Students (Regional Professional dEvelopment Day)
• 1/30: Second Semester Begins

February

• 2/19: No School (President's Day)

March

• 3/9: Half Day Dismissal (Family Conferences)

April
