Young Men of Distinction from An Achievable Dream earn first place trophy

At an outdoor ceremony on March 10, members of the Young Men of Distinction at An Achievable Dream Middle and High School were honored for earning first place in the 2021 Black History Virtual Trivia Bowl.

The competition was presented by The Golden Fold of Alpha Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., who presented a trophy to the group and medals to each of the winning team members at the ceremony.

To prepare for the competition, students learned Black history facts and attended training sessions over the course of five weeks. Their dedicated effort led to their victory over six other local teams.

Young Men of Distinction aims to prepare students for higher education and a life of service. The group at AAD Middle and High includes:

• Seniors Trey Terry, Rickey Taylor and Ty Kinney;
• Raekown Perry, junior;
• Jaden Alexander, eighth grade;
• Richard Linyear III, seventh grade; and
• Hopeton Bailey, sixth grade.

The group's sponsor is Lloyd McKeithan, who teaches math at the school, and Ashley Smith, Quentin Jackson and Richard Linyear coached the young men for the trivia bowl competition.
