A recent autopsy has revealed that Oakton resident Sean Duc Hoang died from complications from a congenital heart disorder when he collapsed during physical training this past fall at Virginia Military Institute, according to a report by The Roanoke Times.
Hoang suffered from a fatal arrhythmia, or an abnormal heart rhythm, an official with the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke told the newspaper.
Hoang was taken by ambulance to the hospital after collapsing Sept. 21 at VMI in Lexington; he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Funeral services were held in September.
