Chase the Submarine's Long-Anticipated Opening Coming in October

Prominent local restauranteurs Michael Amouri, Tim Ma and Joey Hernandez first announced the deli coming to Church Street in February.

Popular Vienna restauranteurs Michael Amouri (of Caffe Amouri) and husband-and-wife chef duo Tim Ma and Joey Hernandez (of Water & Wall and formerly of Maple Ave Restaurant), have announced their new restaurant Chase the Submarine will open in Vienna next month.

The new restaurant, first announced in February, will be a “family owned and operated modern deli” that serves sandwiches, subs and sides as part of a fast casual dining experience, according to a news release promoting the restaurant’s opening next month.

That release does not specify a specific date in October for an opening at its location at 132 Church Street in downtown Vienna, but it does reference a series of pop-up events hosted by Amouri, Hernandez and Ma aimed at promoting the new deli.

The next pop-up event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 1-4 p.m. at the town’s monthly Afternoons on Church Street event. The owners will have a booth set up along Church Street between Dominion and Mill Streets offering free samples to patrons.

Chase the Submarine — named for Ma and Hernandez’s second child, Chase — is the culmination of a longstanding friendship between Amouri and Ma, who both opened local businesses in Vienna around the same time and became friends as a result.

Ma began selling Amouri’s coffee at his restaurants, strengthening their relationship, and after years of talking about partnering to open a restaurant that vision has now come to fruition.

“The foundation for Chase the Submarine came together because we share identical business philosophies that revolve around offering high quality product in addition to giving back to the community we both live in and proudly call home”, said Amouri and Ma in the news release. “Fast casual eateries are becoming extremely popular in tightknit communities for a reason, because they are fun, accessible, on point pricing-wise, offer quality and fresh products, warm friendly service, and serve as that special go-to place in the neighborhood where residents know they can pop by, grab a great sandwich, and enjoy each others company. We’re excited to bring Chase the Submarine to life on Church Street which serves as the historic heart of Vienna.”
