Christmas Weather: Snow And Rain Battle In Oakton

OAKTON, VA—While earlier forecasts suggested it could be a warm and wet Christmas, the latest outlook shows there's now a glimmer of hope for snow in Oakton.

The area will see autumn-like temperatures as travelers hit the roads in the next few days. Yet it's expected to cool down by Christmas Eve, bringing a chance of a rain/snow mix as Santa makes his rounds. The conditions all depend on how low the temperatures can get overnight.

Then on Christmas night, the temperatures are likely to plummet below freezing, at least setting the stage for some snowflakes.

Saturday night: A chance of rain and mostly cloudy with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Christmas Eve: A chance of rain and mostly cloudy with a high around 47. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Christmas Eve night: A chance of rain before 1 a.m. turns into a chance of snow/rain mix with a low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Christmas Day: Partly sunny, with a high near 41.

Christmas Day night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.
