Girl Scout Troop 6833 Honored For Helping Children's Hospitals

The Girl Scout Junior Troop from Vienna and Oakton made surgical caps for children's hospital patients.

(Girl Scouts)

From Girl Scouts: Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital congratulates 5th Grade Girl Scouts from Troop 6833 for earning their Girl Scout Bronze Award. Collectively, these girls served more than 240 volunteer hours and finished 650 cloth hospital caps benefiting pediatric surgical patients at area Children’s Hospitals. The girls learned machine sewing, received fabric donations from family and community members, and worked diligently throughout the school year. They hope that each cap can bring a little bit of joy to the child who will wear it, and that each of those patients will feel better knowing that another child is wishing them well.

By earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award, these 11 girls have become community leaders. Their accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that sets them apart. Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award is truly a remarkable achievement, and Troop 6833 exemplifies this leadership – they saw a need and took action!

About the Girl Scout Bronze Award
Since 1916, girls have been making meaningful, sustainable changes in their communities and around the world. The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior (4th and 5th Graders) can earn. Girls work together as a group to complete a service project that can either directly benefit the Girl Scout community or the girls’ local community or neighborhood. Each girl submits at least 20 service hours towards the group project to earn her personal award.
