More than 1,100 Jobs Added in Fairfax County in Second Quarter: Officials Report

Fairfax County is continuing to emerge as a growing market in the D.C. metro area, as evidenced by the more than 1,000 jobs added throughout the county in the second quarter of this year alone (April-June).

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) confirmed this week it provided serves and resources to 25 businesses throughout the county that added more than 1,100 jobs in the second quarter. The FCEDA said many of these companies exist in the information technology or professional services sectors, while six more are foreign-based companies that chose Fairfax County as the site for their North American headquarters.

These companies include Walmart Technology (Walmart’s IT arm), TEKsystems and Intelsat, among others.

“The announcements by Walmart Technology, TEKsystems and Intelsat illustrate how market leaders in diverse technology sectors look to Fairfax County to find the workforce and the partners they need to be successful,” FCEDA President and CEO Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., said in a news release. “This is what makes Fairfax County a market leader as a business location, most notably for IT and professional services firms.”

Four companies in the county added at least 100 jobs, and two added at least 250 jobs during the second quarter. Only one company from Oakton added jobs between April and June, but the 271 jobs added were the second-most by any individual company during the second quarter.
