National Weather Service: Flash Flooding 'Possible' in Northern Virginia Monday Evening
The NWS said flash flooding due to heavy rain could take place, particularly in urban areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Northern Virginia calling for heavy rains and the potential for flash flooding Monday evening.
“Localized flash flooding is possible from the heavy rain into this evening, particularly in urban areas. A severe thunderstorm with damaging wind gusts and large hail is also possible,” read the NWS alert.
The alert said there is no threat of additional hazardous weather to follow in the aftermath of Monday night’s expected storms.

The NWS defines a flash flood as “a rapid and extreme flow of high water into a normally dry area, or a rapid water level rise in a stream or creek above a predetermined flood level, beginning within six hours of the causative event (e.g., intense rainfall, dam failure, ice jam).”
