New Management for Oakton Jazzercise

This popular fitness workout will continue to offer classes as long-time owner Betsey Duce retires

Betsey Duce opened her first Jazzercise class in 1979, never imagining that 39 years later her classes would still be going and that she’d still be teaching! But that is probably not a surprise among fans of the popular workout. “It’s an all-around, very effective, loads of fun workout,” said new owner Yhomara (Yhomi) Warshavsky. “People love it! And they are very loyal to the program. It’s pretty common to hear about people who have been in this program for years.” That might be because Jazzercise offers a good workout regardless of age or fitness level. “Some people want a high-impact aerobics class, some want low-impact, some like to do both, and some people like to focus on strength training, and we have classes for all of that,” said Yhomi. Both Betsey and Yhomi point to the long-lasting friendships that develop in class as well. “We are an exercise class first, of course, but we also see our customers building a community around one another and that’s really wonderful,” said Yhomi.

The classes located at Oakton United Methodist Church, 2951 Chain Bridge Road, will become part of Fairfax Jazzercise, which offers fitness classes at three other locations: Gesher Day School, 4800 Mattie Moore Ct., the JCC 8900 Little River Turnpike, and the Mott Community Center 12111 Braddock Road. “We offer morning, evening, and weekend classes and our customers can take class at any of these locations,” said Yhomi.

To kick things off, there will be an Open House on Saturday, November 24 at 9:oo am at the Oakton location. In a tribute to Betsey's many years of teaching experience this will be a blast-from-the-past class featuring music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Those interested in trying out this fitness program can participate in this special class for free. And to celebrate the addition of a new location, Fairfax Jazzercise is offering a month of free classes to new customers who sign up for Jazzercise membership.
