Oakton Elementary Students Reach Out to Sandy Victims
Students raise about $1,400 for a Staten Island school
Students at Oakton Elementary School spent their days before Thanksgiving raising money for a Staten Island school affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The Oakton Panthers earned about $1,400 in donations to send to PS 52 in New York. They also took time to sign a 10-foot banner offering their best wishes to their peers.
The banner started the campaign, inspiring the students to come together to care for their fellow students and teachers in Staten Island.

"It was truly inspirational to see our Oakton family come together for such a great cause," said Alysia Dempsey, an Oakton Elementary parent who helped organize the campaign. "We are truly proud of our Oakton Panthers."
The donations will help students at PS 52 and the school currently hosting PS 52's more than 400 students, Michael J. Petrides School, while PS52 is being repaired.
