Oakton Native Kierra Sweeney Named Lacrosse All-American (Again)
Sweeney was named an All-American by U.S. Lacrosse for the second year in a row, and was also named an Under Armour All-American.

A local lacrosse player continues earning national recognition for her play on the field.
Kierra Sweeney, an Oakton resident and recent graduate of Madison High School in Vienna, was named a 2015 U.S. Lacrosse All-American, marking the second year in a row she’d earned the honor.
She was also named an Under Armour All-American this year and participated in a North vs. South Senior girls’ game, in which she scored two goals to help the South team win by a margin of, you guessed it, two goals.

“I was honored and surprised to receive such a tremendous accolade my junior year of high school because I had no idea I was even being considered. In addition, I was extremely humbled to receive it for a second time after my senior season,” Sweeney told Patch. “It was awesome to be recognized at such a national level by U.S. Lacrosse along with such talented girls.
“On top of that, to be honored with representing the South in the Under Armour All-American game and playing with all the top seniors in North America has made me extremely excited to play in college this coming year.”

This school year Kierra will continue her career at the collegiate level at Dartmouth University of the Ivy League. She said she is excited for her next step in her career as a student-athlete, but will take fond memories from her Madison High career with her.
“I will not remember Madison’s team record, our accomplishments or our failures,” Sweeney said. “What I will remember is the bonds I made with my teammates and the life lessons Coach Counts taught me.”
