Rain Dominates Week-Long Forecast Throughout Oakton

As the calendar turns from September to October this week, the weather in Northern Virginia is expected to take a turn for the nasty.

There is at least a 20 percent chance of rain in the forecast every day this week, and on most days the odds of rain moving through the area are even higher than that.

Winds will pick up this week as well, causing temperatures to continue to drop into the 50s and 60s as we move deeper and deeper into the autumn season.

The National Weather Service only projects thunderstorms on Tuesday evening, but it does project the constant rain will continue into the weekend.

Monday night: A chance of rain, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Tuesday: A chance of rain, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 80. Southeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 73. South wind 5 to 11 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Wednesday night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 57. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
