U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly Wins Re-Election to 11th Congressional District Seat

Congressman Gerald E. “Gerry” Connolly was re-elected Tuesday to a fourth term in Congress, according to reports by the Associated Press at about 9:10 p.m.

Connolly will continue to represent Virginia’s 11th congressional District, which includes parts of Fairfax County, Fairfax City and parts of Prince William County.

His opposition included Republican Suzanne Scholte, as well as candidates Joe Galdo and Marc Harrold.

Here’s the vote breakdown from Tuesday, unofficial results from the State Board of Elections:

• Gerry Connolly* (D) 106,726 56.77%
• Suzanne Scholte (R) 75,760 40.30%
• Marc Harrold (L) 3,263 1.74%
• Joe Galdo (G) 1,737 0.92%
• Write In 527 0.28%

Connolly serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

He is the ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations, which covers many issues relating to Northern Virginia’s workforce and economy.

Connolly also serves on the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs. He is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa and also serves on the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.

Connolly is the former chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, where he served for 14 years included five as its chair.

Connolly received an M.A. in Public Administration from Harvard University in 1979. He received a B.A. in Literature from Maryknoll College in Glen Ellyn, Ill. After graduating from Harvard, Connolly spent 10 years on the staff of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Connolly is a resident of Fairfax County, where he lives with his wife Cathy and daughter Caitlin.
