1 Year Ago: Old Town Theater for Sale for $3.5 Million

Sept. 25, 2014: A much-loved theater was on the block, a deal later fell through and it's now for lease.

A beloved fixture in Old Town Alexandria, the Old Town Theater, went up for sale a year ago, for $3.5 million. The story caught the attention of many Patch readers.

Afterward, papers were filed with the City showing that the theater was about to have a new owner, but the deal fell through. Now, the theater is looking to lease space at the building.

The 100-year old Old Town Theater is for sale for $3.5 million, according to a listing on loopnet.com. The building is located at 815½ King St.

PMA Properties also notes the property is for lease.

Rasmus Auctions will be selling the contents of the theater including entertainment equipment, sound boards, lighting and kitchen equipment. Some of the items on the auction Web site include Victrola gramophones, a piano, a drum set, theater seating, microphone stands, a red stage curtain, a brass and velvet rope line and a portable bar.

The theater was restored and reopened in December 2012 by Rob Kaufman, featuring films and live acts. Kaufman is founder of PMA Properties.

The listing on loopnet says:

The building has been totally renovated and ready for occupancy. The property has been used as a theater/ restaurant. It is perfect for a conversion to retail, spa, restaurant.

The building is in the heart of Old Town.
