Alexandria City Council Postpones Saturday Meeting Until 1:30 Due to Icy Roads

Icy conditions are causing crashes, power outages and delays across the region Saturday in Northern Virginia.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Due to icy road conditions, the Alexandria City Council meeting scheduled for Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. has been postponed to 1:30 p.m., the City announced shortly after 10:30 a.m.

City snow and ice response teams remain deployed in response to freezing rain and ice. Crews have completed treatment on primary and most secondary routes, and work is now focused on hills and trouble spots in residential areas. Treatment will continue until temperatures rise later this morning, the City said. The Virginia Department of Transportation reports significant icing on Interstates 395 and 495.

Use caution when walking and driving, since untreated streets and sidewalks remain ice covered at this time, the City advised.
