1. Preregister online at www.alexandriava.gov/Vaccines. This directs you to the statewide vaccine registration form at vaccinate.virginia.gov. If you have already filled out the Alexandria Health Department's preregistration form, you do not need to fill out the new statewide form; you can check online if you're in the statewide system. Vaccine appointments are being scheduled for groups eligible in Virginia's phases 1a and 1b. Phase 1a includes health care workers and long-term care facility residents and staff. Phase 1b includes frontline essential worker groups, people 65 and over, people 16 to 64 with an underlying health condition or disability, and people living in correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and migrant labor camps.
2. Wait for an appointment. The wait may be several weeks before the health department contacts you by email or phone to schedule an appointment. The health department continues to face higher demand than vaccine supply available.

Due to limited weekly doses provided to Alexandria, the health department is prioritizing groups within the phases. Doses are first prioritized for Alexandria residents ages 75 and older long-term care residents and employees, and health care workers, human service workers and primary caregivers for people with severe conditions, who live or work in Alexandria.
Remaining appointment slots are divided into two groups: 50 percent for people aged 65 to 74 and 50 percent for essential workers in phase 1b and people 16 to 64 with underlying conditions or disabilities.
The health department has started vaccinating the group with underlying conditions or disabilities but is first contacting residents of the 13 Census tracts with the highest social vulnerability scores. These vulnerability scores as defined by the CDC use 15 factors including poverty, race or ethnicity status, not speaking English well, and crowded housing. Members of each group are invited to schedule their appointment based on the order in which they preregistered. The health department will also continue contacting people in other census tracts in the order they signed up.
As of Friday, 18,951 people have at least one vaccine dose in Alexandria, according to Virginia Department of Health data. There are 9,106 people fully vaccinated in Alexandria.
